Solar Energy Advantages Disadvantages

If you are considering using solar energy then you should be conscious of the pluses and minuses of this renewable energy. So, let's jump right into looking at what are the solar energy advantages and disadvantages.

Solar energy advantages:

Very inexpensive. If you are comparing solar energy to oil or natural gas, then there is no beating solar energy. It is in fact one of the most cost-effective renewable energy options available to all of us. Really the only cost is that which you pay up front to purchase the tiles and after that it is basically free. It is true that you may have to maintain the tiles over time but that is your only expense and does not have to occur on a frequent basis. If you are talking about oil or gas then that is a constant premium that you have to come up with. Yes, there is no beating solar energy when it comes to putting money back in your pocket.

Good for the environment. Whereas oil and gas strip the earth of its natural resources and cause pollutants to damage the sensitive environment, using solar energy has no negative effects on the environment. Next to saving you money, this is the greatest solar energy advantage that I can think of.

Low maintenance. As previously mentioned one of the great solar energy advantages is the fact that these tiles more than pay for themselves and the maintenance is almost nonexistent.

Solar energy disadvantages:

Expensive. So, how is it that I talked glowingly about the economic advantages of solar energy and yet have it here also listed as a solar energy disadvantage? Well, as mentioned before the only cost is the initial one but that is a significant amount of money to drop on a renewable energy source. Of course, if you are thinking over the long run then you will realize that you alternately save a lot of money.

Inefficiency. When you purchase oil or natural gas than you can sit back and know that this refined renewable energy source will do what it's supposed to do but when you use solar energy it is largely dependent on the location of the sun in terms of the amount of energy that you can convert.

In conclusion, there are a number of solar energy advantages disadvantages but it is the belief of this author that the advantages far outweigh those that are disadvantages.
