People Skills: 3 Essential People Skills

Developing the right people skills is absolutely essential for every facet of life. If you want to get that job then you need to have the right people skills. If you want to raise your children the right way then you also need to learn these skills. In fact, if you want to be successful at anything in life then it is absolutely essential that you develop the right people skills. Let's take a look now at the five essential people skills.

1. Being a good listener. The old saying is true, “God gave you one mouth and two ears." The point being that you should try to really listen to people when they are speaking and not get caught up in thinking about what you are to say without fully giving them your attention. There is also such a thing as "active listening" which involves not only hearing what they're saying but trying to understand where they're coming from. This type of listening is one of the most important people skills as it conveys to the person you are dealing with the fact you not only hear what they're saying that you care about who they are. Yes, becoming a good listener is probably the most important of all the people skills.

2. Making eye contact. This may seem overly obvious but you would be shocked if you look at the statistics that tell what a low percentage of people actually stop and make eye contact with the individual that they are communicating with. When you take the time to look somebody in the eye when they are speaking to you, you are not only being respectful but you were also once again letting them know that they are important to you. When an individual knows they are important to you then you have won them over.

3. Giving back time. If you are interested in developing the right people skills then one thing you can never leave out is learning how to spend quality time with those that you care about. Just being around somebody does not necessarily mean that they feel like you care about them. You should try and really spend not only quantity but quality of time with those individuals.
